FAMNET GUIDELINES

In order for the listserv to run smoothly these things need to be addressed.

1) Volume of email - This is an issue that comes up every year. It partly is the time of year where excitement is high and a lot is going on and it is also due to the fact that the listserv is continuing to grow larger every year. This ends up bulging email boxes with 80 – 100 emails a day. For some this is not a problem but for others it makes it very difficult to get anything done.

Things that need to be done in order to make the reading of emails easier.

a) FNAC emails - Make sure you read all messages from the FNAC. They are not sent very often so please make sure you read them when they are sent to the family net.

b) Subject line - make sure your subject reflects the topic in your message. This makes it much easier for those that want to scan and delete to know what they are deleting without opening the message.

c) Replying to the whole net - make sure when you are replying to the net it is for the net and not a personal note to another member. The listserv is set up to reply to the person and not the listserv for this reason. This will keep down the emails that are of no interest but to one person. Make sure when you put something on the net it will be of interest to a group of people and not just one.

d) Fluff - most don't have a problem with fluff (non Academy related subjects such as recipes, jokes, stories, ect.) as long as they are aware it is fluff so if it is not Academy related please make sure FLUFF is in the subject line. It makes going through the slew of emails very quick if the person is only interested in Academy related subjects.

e) Replying to a digest - this is really important to DIGEST members. When you email to the family net you MUST cut the digest from the email if you are replying to a message and change the subject line. If this is not done the message will not go through the listserv plain and simple. No one wants to have digests within digests as it is very large and confusing to read.

f) Chain letters & hoaxes - Chain letters and hoaxes are not welcome on the family net. It is techno litter and really a nuisance. If you get a email about some horrific thing that is happening around the country please check it out before you share it with the family net especially when it says please send to everyone. 99% of the time it is a hoax. Also chain letters have no place on the internet much less the family net. Please refrain from doing this. Virus warnings should always be checked out before you send it to the family net. There are many websites out there that are dedicated to these type of emails. If you are unsure how to check them out many famnet members out there are willing to answer questions about these subjects as they answer the questions on the net frequently. If you do not know where to check out this information please email the FNAC (family net advisory committee) at: fnac@falconpride.com and someone on there will be happy to help.

PLEASE SAVE THIS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
